How useful are Org Charts?

And why it's our job to create our own useful charts

Hi,

Hope you are having a great weekend. In this week’s “Here’s an idea worth playing with”, I briefly chat about org charts and how they only tell one picture.

They don’t describe how works get done and who “touches” this work. They don’t explain communication styles, nor who’s helpful and who isn’t, nor who’s influential and who isn’t.

That’s our job: to widen our awareness so we can get more done, and we’re suprised less often.

Effective employees do this - they get to know how the real work works.

Here’s some ideas for alternative org charts (enable images to see them).

Until next week.

Rob
