Hi,
Hope you are well and looking forward to the week ahead.
It's all go here at Lambert HQ as we prepare to move house (hopefully).
It got me thinking. Deadlines and commitments to others change our behaviour - it's something to consider in the workplace too. As soon as we knew we were moving we cleared the junk from our own house (no point in moving things we don't need or add value) and we became focused on only that which adds value to our lives.
Use this power at work.
As a manager we can clarify effort and attention by focusing attention on a narrowing array of work and outcomes. We often spread ourselves too thin in business trying to achieve far too much.
Narrow down. Get clear on what you want from work and life and put massive effort behind that. Get clear on who you want to experience those things with - your work colleagues make a big difference to the journey. Get clear on the outcomes. And don't be afraid to use deadlines. Deadlines can focus attention, just don't become so tied to a deadline that you don't deliver the outcomes and take short cuts to hit the deadline.
Go forth - focus on the few things that bring value and the right outcomes. Focus on surrounding yourself with the right people. Focus on adding value.
Go forth focused managers.
Rob..

EDUCATION
We learn the most by noticing the world around us. I'm reading The Art of Noticing - a book about how to start noticing more. It's a cracker.
HEALTH
Another smart phone habit breaking post. Ignore the fact it's on The Art of Manliness site - it's relevant to everyone.
FAMILY
My Content : 5 Techniques to leave stress at work. I have to keep practicing these myself a lot.
SOCIETAL IMPACT
Diversity can still thrive, even when you focus on hiring for cultural fit. In fact, it should be the priority.
EFFECTIVENESS
Love this - stop moving fast and breaking things. Take responsibility and care and get it right. Nice words from Microsoft.
Facebook like to move fast and break things. And sometimes this behaviours has horrible side effects. (and you know I'm not a fan of Facebook)
