The Manager - Edition 66 - Take Great Care Of Yourself - By Rob Lambert
Welcome to the Cultivated Management Newsletter
Hi,
I hope you’ve had a great weekend and are all set for the week ahead.
You can tell spring has sprung here in the UK as the nights are lighter, the days are warmer, colour is returning to the trees and the Lambert family have just completed our annual toy purge. Time to give to charity the many toys our boys no longer play with.
It’s a short one this week with a little ditty about looking out for yourself, some cool links to click on and exciting news - my new brand is almost complete - as is the Cultivated Management online video course!
Have a great week.
Rob
Look After Yourself
Look after yourself. It’s a rule in life. Don’t be selfish, but look after yourself.
If you’re not in a good place as a human, parent, manager or employee - how can you realistically commit energy to others when you might not be a good place yourself?
As spring is here I’m trying really hard to seek balance of my pillars.
As my season of life shifts so do my priorities. We all move with times, seasons and moments in life.
For me, it’s no longer about travel, networking and career advancement in a company. It’s more about helping others, spending as much time with my kids as I can, growing my training business and recovering my health.
As a manager it’s crucial you look after yourself first, so you can be there for the team. I was reminded of that this week when I met the CEO of a company I am working with and he said he always puts his health and sleep first. If he doesn't - how could he be expected to lead? I reckon it’s the first time I’ve ever heard a CEO of a mega large business say that!
So go forth - take care of yourself and see you next week.

Cool Stuff To Click On
1 - Some lessons for the first time manager - very good starting point.
2 - The research and book are pretty old now, but this one keeps doing the rounds - how to live long, like the Japanese. Plenty of lessons for those of us trying to maintain or regain health.
3 - I don't normally click on these link bait letters to managers type of stuff - especially when it has the word Millennial in it - but I'm glad I clicked on this one. But let's face it - everything in here applies to anyone, Millennial or not!
4 - Some good advice if you're thinking of starting a 4 day week.
5 - Employees at Microsoft taking on the CEO over company's treatment of women.
6 - The review and rating system on Amazon coming under scrutiny. It was said to be the new way of shopping - using other people's reviews to shop. The new way. New Tech. Social Proof. Not so in this article showing how reviews can be misleading.
7 - So good to see an employer actually doing something for those who often struggle to find jobs. Timpson leading the way on hiring ex-prisoners.
