Edition 15 - Go where you're celebrated
Hi and welcome to this week’s newsletter.
It’s a short one this week as I'm still recovering from this week’s Cultivated Communications Workshop! I had a great time; the feedback was very positive but there are still improvements to be made. I’m very pleased with how it went and the attendees really seemed to enjoy it.
This week’s newsletter is all about a tough decision many of us may face – whether to quit a job in a company where you're no longer valued and move to a company where you're celebrated, or stick it out.

Go where you're celebrated, not tolerated
"Go where you're celebrated not tolerated"
- Eric Thomas, Author, Speaker, Educator
I listened to Eric Thomas' podcast a few months back and one line he mentioned really stood out to me. "Go where you're celebrated not tolerated."
It's advice I think all employees and managers alike should hold close to them. As companies change and the world moves on, where we once were celebrated may soon become somewhere we are just about tolerated.
Our goal is to find work environments, teams and companies where our values, skills, imagination, innovation and personality are celebrated. These places exist. Lots of work places celebrate different values and thinking. Our job in life is to find these places; where we can thrive, where we can excel, where we can grow, where we can work with like-minded individuals. Or we could go and make these places for ourselves.
In your search for a job or a career or fulfilment in other aspects of our lives, don't forget to seek out places where you will be celebrated not tolerated. Far too many people get stuck in an environment where they are tolerated. Where their ideas just don’t seem to resonate with out of date management (who aren't moving with the market and business needs) and leaders who don’t seem to care anymore. Where their skills are being wasted and their desire to keep adding more value is just not accepted for a variety of reasons. It’s sad but there are plenty of companies who just want someone to sit down and do average work.
That’s not for you.
You are better than that – if you want to, you can do more.
The tech world needs innovators, leaders and managers who know how to make the work better, get the best from people and deliver business value. Some companies know this – seek those companies out. Avoid those companies that think the old way will always work.
I encourage you to find a place where you are celebrated for who you are and what you have to bring. And try to avoid, or escape from, places where you’re tolerated, undervalued and no longer adding value because others don't see it.

Zero to Keynote Workshop
In late February I'm looking to run a Zero To Keynote workshop with a strict limit of 10 places as it is all about learning how to do great presentations, find ideas to talk about and how to get your submissions accepted.
The workshop will be aimed at those wanting to do more conference speaking, but many of the lessons are relevant to business, sales or public service presentations. It's really aimed at people who want to get started, or are already speaking but want extra help in becoming more confident, nailing their delivery or coming up with more ideas for talks.
The reason for the low number of delegates is because the workshop is intense and hands-on. It needs to be few in numbers so that I can keep it a safe place and we can practice plenty of presenting skills.
Let me know if you're interested in attending by hitting reply to this email. It's likely to be in either Reading or Winchester and will be around £400 for the full day.

Book of the Week
I haven't actually read anything this week or last. I've been busy writing instead.
When I write I tend not to read too much as I find it affects my own writing style!
If you haven't already grabbed a copy of either of my two new books you can find them here:
