Health, Work-Life Tension and a big list of healthy resources - The Cultivated Management Newsletter
Hi all,
As you've no doubt seen over the last few years the rise of wellbeing schemes and personal care in the work place has sky rocketed. And with good reason. In our always conected world many people are trying to balance work and life - and not many of us are succeeding.
Mental health issues are on the rise and some work places are taking (positive) drastic action to address the "always on" mentality we now have. A company in France doesn't allow emails to be sent after work hours, a company in the Netherlands closes the offices at home time and a company in Germany are deleting emails that get sent to someone who is on holiday!
I don't refer to this as a balance - it's a tension, not a balance. This constant tension is something people in the modern workplace are dealing with.
I've personally struggled to get it right and hit rock bottom a number of times. In all of this I've tried to come out of the other side stronger and wiser. Until I come out of the other side I don't share what's going on. It's a little like an agile transition in that respect. Until you get to your goal it's tricky to get that 360 perspective on it and see it for what it is - and then put it all together to share with others.
My mission now is to help other managers deal with their tensions before they hit rock bottom. Because, trust me, at rock bottom it sucks. But at least there's only one way out - and that's up.
As such, today's newsletter is all about sharing a load of resources (mostly books) that will help and inspire you regarding one of the main pillars of Cultivated Managers - the health and wellbeing pillar.
If you're looking after your health, worried about your health or in dire need of some help the following resources may be helpful.
These are also available on my ever growing reading list page on the blog.
I do hope the following help you get your tensions right. Over the next few months I'll be blogging a lot more about health and wellbeing, as I'm seeing it playing a large part in the success of us as individuals and in our role as managers.
