Look after yourself, the pillars and starting up - Cultivated Management newsletter
Howdy and welcome to this week's Cultivated Management newsletter.
You'll see a theme running through much of the Cultivated Management content and it's about being effective at work. But in order to be effective you have to have balance. Physical balance is clearly important, but so too is emotional and intellectual balance.
Cultivated Management is founded on some core pillars of management. Imagine them to be legs on a table. If one leg is missing the table is wonky. The same with you. If you have one of the pillars out of balance you will be unstable. Have more than one out of balance and you will likely tumble and fall.
Being a good manager is about bringing the best version of yourself to work. And that means balance.
Your management will never be better than you as a person.
So look after yourself. It's important. It's easy to fall in to the trap that a manager is what you are. I certainly fell for that. I started to define my worth against the job. I lost the interest I had in hobbies and out of work activities. I became laser focused on being the best manager I could become, but it came with costs. That's why I'm keen to make sure others don't follow the same path of all consuming work.
Over the next few months I will be sharing exclusive content around these pillars here on the newsletter and how to achieve a healthy tension.
The pillars are:
Health and Longevity
Education
Relevance & Responsiveness
Money & Finance
Cultural & Societal Impact
Productivity
Each week I will explore one in more depth bringing them all together in to a holistic approach. I'll be sharing ideas on how to weave these in to your life and turn them in to habits.
Over Christmas I'm taking a break from blogging and this newsletter to rebalance my own pillars in life 😃 The content will resume in January.
As such I wish you all a very happy festive period.
Next year I'd like to run a poll/survey with you to find out what you want from Cultivated Management too. I'm stepping up the focus next year but I want to be sure it's in alignment with what you want.
And if you want to develop a brand new super-hero power in the world of business then check out my communication skills seminar in January.

I'm currently re-reading the $100 startup. Hint. Hint. Full recommendation for the book in the next newsletter.
Until next year 😃
