Re-inventing leadership, Amsterdam and Bad Managers - Cultivated Management Newsletter
Hi,
I hope you're having a great week. It's been a hectic week for me this week. At the beginning of the week I was in Amsterdam at an event called TestNet. Very cool indeed and I delivered my Communication Workshop for around 50 people and a Keynote at the end of the day. Good fun indeed.
Re-inventing Leadership
I've been slowly trudging my way through a book called Re-Inventing Leadership by Dr Paul Thomas. I really like Dr Thomas' work and thinking but I must admit I am struggling with the way the book is written. It's got some deep insights though and I'm learning a ton. But it is slow going.
Saying that, I thought I would share this cracking line:
"We need to stop ‘buying’ the time of people in companies, and concentrate on buying talent. "
Indeed. Talented people build good systems. They share knowledge. They communicate. They get behind the values and the mission of the business. They shine a light for others to follow and they get stuck in. They often get all of this done in less hours than other employees. So yes, as a manager it is important to buy talent rather than buying time.
