Community, Appreciation, Bruce Lee and Facebook - Cultivated Management Newsletter
Community, Appreciation, Bruce Lee and Facebook
Hi,
In this week's Cultivated Management newsletter I have some announcements, an article about appreciation, harder ways to get in touch, easier ways to get in touch (eh!) and some inspiration from Kung-Fu legend Bruce Lee.
I wanted to let you know that Cultivated Management is changing slightly. I'm focussing more on you, the person, than on straight-forward management techniques. This means I'll be focussing on 5 pillars of management success:
Health and Longevity (without this we have nothing. Bio hacking, mental health, stability)
Education and Self Learning (learning is crucial to management)
Relevance and Responsiveness (remaining employable, learning to respond to change)
Money and Finance (budgets, side-gigs and the importance of being financially savvy - it makes you a riskier manager - and that can be a good thing)
Cultural and Societal Impact (making sure you give back, improve the team culture and make big changes)
Productivity (delivering more than people expect, learning, deep work)
Management has to be holistic. It has to be unified. It's no good being excellent at management theory but too tired and ill to be your best at work. Balance is needed. I'll be writing more about this angle of management.
Community
I'm making myself harder to get in touch with by the general public, and easier to get in touch with by those of you keen on becoming Cultivated Managers.
I'm making it harder to get in touch by deleting the Cultivated Management Facebook page, spending a lot less time on Twitter, posting less to LinkedIn (is it me, or is it getting unbelievably random and less business-like on LinkedIn?) and being selective in responding to email.
I'm making it easier for people to get more closely connected though, by launching a small and private Community should you wish to join.
It’s a purposely small and private community, where I share deeper insights, inspiring links and behind the scenes ideas about management.
It’s also a place to connect with other cultivated managers and share ideas. There is also a section where you can ask questions and I will do my hardest to respond to each one.
It’s only just launched and will take some time to grow, but I want to keep it small and private. I'm keen for it to become a place of deep learning and connection.
Consider this a mini mentoring and learning group – a mastermind so to speak.
If you’re interested in this level of deep connection and learning, ping me a request to join the community by heading to the community on Google+ and asking to join.
Appreciation
This week I posted an article up on LinkedIN (I'll be posting less on LinkedIn as per above) about how to run an appreciative inquiry.
An appreciative inquiry is a session focussed solely on positivity. It's about looking at what your company/team are already doing well. It's then about amplifying that positivity and looking at how much better you could be; then going ahead and designing that future.
They are a blast to run and they often result in fired-up teams eager to make an epic difference.

Bruce Lee
I've always been a fan of Kung-Fu movies. Bruce Lee, to many, is considered the most famous and inspiring Kung-Fu legend. So it was with joy to discover that Bruce Lee's daughter Shannon, has launched a new Podcast discussing many of Bruce Lee's ideas, philosophies and teachings.
So far, so good. Some good insights to life, work, balance and adaptability.

Until next week.
